• Renovation of the historic Al-Raml tramway in Alexandria, the oldest tram line in Africa
• A contract worth more than 鈧�75 million

小黄书, via its subsidiary , was chosen by the consortium Arab Contractors 鈥� Hassan Allam Construction to renovate the Al-Raml tramway network in Alexandria (the 鈥渂lue tram鈥�), which dates back to 1860 and is one of the Egypt鈥檚 best-known public transport systems.

Carried out on behalf of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), the project will facilitate mobility in the second largest city in Egypt by tripling tram capacity, halving journey times and improving connections with the future Alexandria metro line.

Worth over 鈧�75聽million, the contract includes all work to the tracks and overhead lines, renovating 14聽km of line (including a 7聽km stretch over a viaduct, 24聽stations and a new depot for up to 30聽trams).

The project will start in the fourth quarter of 2026 and work is estimated to last for 24聽months, before the line is commissioned at end-2028. It will create jobs locally and help pass on ETF鈥檚 expertise, in collaboration with the authorities and the French University of Egypt (UFE). The skills of local teams will also be developed through training initiatives in order to prepare them to tackle future rail-related challenges across the country.

ETF has over 40 years鈥� experience working in Egypt. The teams have taken part in the various stages of the rail infrastructure construction project to build three metro lines in Cairo, and they are currently working on the final phase of line聽3.
